Warner Bros.’ recently released The Batman is going to be a massive hit, as the film opened to $57 million at the Friday box office.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film’s projected opening weekend is just slightly above $120 million, which would firmly place it as the second-best domestic opening of the pandemic era behind Spider-Man: No Way Home, which debuted to a ridiculous $260.1 million en route to earning more than $1.8 billion at the worldwide box office.
While it’s currently unlikely The Batman will reach the highs of the latest Marvel film, it is a major win for Warner Bros., especially considering that The Batman is not only a much darker film but also runs for nearly three hours. The film’s opening Friday included $21.6 million in Thursday previews and fan screenings in Imax theaters on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as the titular Dark Knight, Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Paul Dano as Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as GCPD’s James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gotham D.A. Gil Colson, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Ferrell as Oswald Cobblepot/ Penguin. It will also feature Barry Keoghan, Jayme Lawson, Alex Ferns, and twins Max and Charlie Carver.
The Batman is directed by Matt Reeves from a screenplay he co-wrote with Peter Craig. Reeves is also currently developing two HBO Max series that will be set within the film’s universe. This includes a Gotham City Police project, and Penguin-centered series starring Colin Farrell.
