During the U.K. red carpet premiere for The Batman, director Matt Reeves revealed that Warner Bros. and he has already discussed a sequel to the highly anticipated film.

“I hope so, we’ll see — I mean for sure,” said Reeves when asked about the possibility of more films. “I mean look, you don’t make number one as if there’s going to be number two. You have to make number one as if you’re swinging for the fences and it has to be a movie that stands and lives on its own.”
Despite the initial vagueness, Reeves did go on to explicitly state that he had already had talks about another movie, but that it’s best to see the reception of the upcoming film before anything else.
“But I really believe in what we’ve done and I’d be excited to tell more stories,” Reeves explained. “We are already telling other stories in the streaming space, we’re doing stuff on HBO Max, we’re doing a Penguin show with Colin which is gonna be super cool, and we’re doing some work on some other stuff too. But we have started talking about another movie, but, y’know, right now we’ll just put it out in the world and I’ll try to enjoy this.”

The comments come after Reeves recently spoke about the challenge of creating a movie like The Batman, and how other villains — including Mr. Freeze — could be incorporated into the franchise in future films. While star Robert Pattinson was hesitant to say that more films could ever happen, it seems as if Warner Bros. is ready to keep the group together for more entries.

The Batman is directed by Matt Reeves from a screenplay he co-wrote with Peter Craig. Reeves is also currently developing two HBO Max series that will be set within the film’s universe. This includes a Gotham City Police project, and Penguin-centered series starring Colin Farrell.
