Fred Hechinger Cast as Chameleon in Sony’s Kraven the Hunter Film

Following the recent addition of Russell Crowe, Sony Pictures continues to expand the cast of its next live-action Marvel film Kraven the Hunter, with the addition of Fred Hechinger (Fear Street Trilogy, The White Lotus). According to Deadline, the rising young actor is expected to portray the role of Marvel supervillain Chameleon, who is known as Kraven’s half-brother.

In the comics, Chameleon’s real name was Dmitri Smerdyakov who is known for his ability to impersonate virtually anybody, making him the “Master of Disguises.” The character was created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, and had made his debut in the first issue of The Amazing Spider-Man in 1963.

Kraven the Hunter will feature Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Avengers: Age of Ultron) as takes on the mantle of the titular Spider-Man villain, who is a Russian immigrant named Sergei Kravinoff. In the film, which is being billed as the next chapter of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (SSU), he goes on a mission to prove that he is the greatest hunter in the world.

The character was first introduced in the pages of Amazing Spider-Man #15 back in 1964. As his moniker suggests, he’s a hunter with a superhuman ability to track his prey. More than 20 years later, his definitive story, Kraven’s Last Hunt, became a landmark moment in Spider-Man’s long and increasingly complicated canon.
