Back in 2012, CBS Films acquired the big screen rights to Square Enix’s hit video game franchise Deus Ex. Although Scott Derrickson was temporarily attached to the feature, The Hollywood Reporter today offers an update, saying that Derrickson’s commitment to Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange will prevent his involvement and that the script is now set for a rewrite from Predators scribe Michael Finch. Derrickson and Robert Cargill penned the most recent draft.
The Deus Ex franchise was originally introduced in June 2000. Set in the near future, when dramatic advances in science, specifically human augmentation, have triggered a technological renaissance, Deus Ex follows Adam Jensen, an ex-SWAT security specialist who must embrace mechanical augments in order to unravel a global conspiracy.
Roy Lee and Adrian Askarieh are attached to produce with John P. Middleton set to serve as Executive Producer. Executive Vice President of Production Maria Faillace and Creative Executive Alex Ginno are overseeing the project for CBS Films.
