The comedy world is once again in mourning as legendary comedian Louie Anderson has passed away at the age of 68. The actor’s death has been confirmed by his publicist. He passed away on Friday after a battle with cancer.
The stand-up comedian had a successful career having found success in the 80s after performing on The Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson. This led to several appearances in films, such as Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and Coming to America. Anderson would go on to create and star in the Fox animated series Life with Louie, which was based on his childhood, and Anderson won two Daytime Emmys for his performance as himself as an eight-year-old.
Anderson was also the first host of Family Feud‘s third revival. He stayed with the program for four years and left in 2002. The comedian also had his own CBS sitcom called The Louie Show in 1996, which was canceled after six episodes. Most recently, Anderson had a recurring role in Baskets and played the mother of Zach Galifanakis’ Chip Baskets named Christine. This critically acclaimed role led to Anderson winning a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. Most recently, he also appeared in Coming 2 America.
ComingSoon sends condolences to Anderson’s family and friends.
