According to The Hollywood Reporter, Golden Globe nominee Alison Brie has officially signed on to star opposite John Cena in the upcoming action comedy film titled Freelance. Brie is set to portray the role of a journalist, who’s trying to save her career by interviewing a dictator. Production is expected to begin later this month in Colombia.

Freelance will be directed by Taken filmmaker Pierre Morel from a screenplay written by Jacob Lentz. It will be a production by AGC Studios and Endurance Media, who are co-financing the project. It will be produced by Endurance Media’s Steve Richard, alongside Sentient Entertainment’s Renee Tab and Christopher Tuffin.
“The film centers on an ex-special forces operator who, desperate to escape his humdrum life, takes a job providing security for a journalist who is hoping to salvage her career by interviewing a dictator,” reads the synopsis. “Things go sideways when a military coup breaks out in the middle of the interview, and the mismatched duo, along with the dictator, escape to the jungle where they must survive the military chasing them, animals hunting them and each other.”

Brie is best known for her performances in TV shows such as The Community, Mad Men, and Netflix’s GLOW. The latter earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Television Series Musical or Comedy. Her notable films credits include: The Five-Year Engagement, Sleeping with Other People, Get Hard, How to Be Single, Promising Young Woman, The Rental, and Happiest Season.
