Emmy winner Jodie Comer (Killing Eve) has exited Ridley Scott’s upcoming biographical drama Kitbag, which will star Joaquin Phoenix as the French military leader Napoleon Bonaparte (via The Hollywood Reporter).
“Unfortunately, due to COVID and changes of schedule, I don’t think I can make Kitbag work right now due to a scheduling conflict,” Comer told THR, calling the development “rubbish.”

Comer, who most recently starred in Scott’s historical drama The Last Duel, was attached to play opposite Phoenix as Napoleon’s wife Josephine. The actress is scheduled to begin rehearsals for her first West End stage production, Prima Facie, this March.
Apple and 20th Century Studios’ Kitbag is expected to start shooting in Europe later this month. The movie is described as an original and personal look at Napoleon’s origins and his swift, ruthless climb to emperor, viewed through the prism of his addictive and often volatile relationship with his wife and one true love, Josephine. The film will capture Napoleon’s famous battles, his relentless ambition, and “astounding strategic mind as an extraordinary military leader and war visionary.”
