The best bounty hunter in the Star Wars universe is back with new adventures as The Book of Boba Fett hit Disney+ earlier today. The freshly-released story follows Fett taking over the criminal world on Tatooine in the aftermath of Jabba the Hutt’s death. On top of that, the series will give a backstory to a mysterious character who has always had very little on-screen time so far.
Before making his big-stage return in The Mandalorian, fans believed Fett was dead following the Sarlacc incident. So, how did he survive his encounter with the monster in Return of the Jedi? The story finally unveiled how Fett dealt with that situation and why he bears those marks on his face.
The Book of Boba Fett premiere brought fans back to Tatooine, where Fett was healing his wounds in a bacta medical machine. The episode employed flashbacks to show some pivotal moments in Fett’s life, such as his departure from Kamino and losing his father, Jango, on Geonosis. Fett’s mind then went back to when he was inside the Sarlacc’s stomach, which was slowly starting to digest the bounty hunter. The monster’s stomach acid was already at work on a nearby stormtrooper, and it affected Fett’s face too. Notably, the Sarlacc’s digestive process lasts for 1000 years. After realizing where he was, Fett stole his companion’s oxygen. The bounty hunter then fired the flamethrower integrated into his armor.
After creating enough space, he dug his way out of the monster, whose entire body was buried in the sand. When he saw the twin suns’ light again, Fett collapsed on the sand. A group of wandering Jawas stripped him of his precious beskar armor. Then, they abandoned him in the middle of the desert on the brink of death. That’s when some Tuskens passed by and took Fett prisoner, taking him into one of their villages. The run-down Fett had to endure slavery, but he was alive at least.
How did Fett end inside the Sarlacc?
In the original Star Wars trilogy, Fett captured Han Solo alive for Darth Vader. At the same time, he was working as one of Jabba’s hatchmen. After tracking down the Millennium Falcon in Cloud City and assisting Darth Vader to freeze Solo into the carbonite, Fett delivered the smuggler to Jabba. Luke Skywalker’s subsequent efforts to rescue his friend were in vain, but they led to Solo’s release from carbonite. Then, Jabba sentenced the whole Millennium Falcon crew to death at the Great Pit of Carkoon, the home of a vicious Sarlacc. Having no other option than to fight, Skywalker and his friends overpowered their capturers. During the clash, a lucky vibro-ax shot from Solo activated Fett’s jetpack, and he ended inside the mouth of the Sarlacc, apparently dying.
The Resurrection
Fett’s next appearance is five years after Return of the Jedi. In the timeline, those events went down four years after the Battle of Yavin. Thus, Fett and Din Djarin meet somewhere in 9 ABY. At first, Fett watched his fellow Mandalorian going away with Jango Fett’s armor from afar after the Krayt dragon affair. Later, Fett confronted Djarin and reclaimed his father’s legacy. When the Mandalorians clashed on Tython, their fight was interrupted by Moff Gideon’s troops, who were looking for Grogu. Fett laid waste on his opponents during the subsequent battle, but, despite everyone’s efforts, the Dark Troopers kidnapped Grogu. Ultimately, Fett and Fennec Shand teamed up with Djarin to help him rescue the Child, and they took different paths after accomplishing their mission.
