The movie, which is said to be loosely based on his own childhood, is getting a wide theatrical release the day before Thanksgiving. The Fabelmans stars Michelle Williams, Seth Rogen, Paul Dano, and Gabriel LaBelle. Spielberg co-wrote the screenplay alongside Tony Kushner and is producing the film along with Kushner and Kristie Macosko Krieger.
Dano is set to play a character that is based on Spielberg’s father, with Williams playing a version of his mother. Rogen will play a version of Spielberg’s uncle. With the release date set, The Fabelmans is looking to take on some big films, as it will launch against an untitled Disney animated release, as well as MGM’s Creed III.

For Spielberg, The Fabelmans will be his second holiday release in as many years, as the highly-anticipated West Side Story is set to open this week in theaters. With that film already beginning to garner massive buzz ahead of awards season, Spielberg will likely be hoping for similar excitement next year with a much more personal film set to launch.
