In 2019, longtime friends and producing partners Will Ferrell and Adam McKay split up, folding their production house and moving on to other works. In a recent interview, Ferrell spoke on the split, and what caused it.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Ferrell was asked about the breakup between the two longtime collaborators. Ferrell chalked the split up to the two just having different paths in producing.
“Adam was like, ‘I want to do this, and this, and this’; he wanted growth and a sphere of influence, and I was just like, ‘I don’t know, that sounds like a lot that I have to keep track of,’ ” said Ferrell. “To me, the potential of seeing a billboard, and being like: ‘Oh, we’re producing that?’ I don’t know. … At the end of the day, we just have different amounts of bandwidth.”

Despite the pair no longer working together in the production world, their Gary Sanchez Productions banner continues to operate today in some capacity. The production house is still involved in the production of several television series, including the hit HBO show Succession, as well as continuing to work on various upcoming films that they are contracted to.
