HBO has officially landed the rights to a documentary on the story of the Bishop Sycamore High School football scandal. The documentary will debut sometime in 2022, and will focus on the story of the Bishop Sycamore Centurions. For those unaware, the team came to prominence earlier this year, when they participated in a game televised by ESPN in which they lost 58-0.

According to a recent report from Deadline, HBO has acquired both the TV and streaming rights to a documentary from former NFL great Michael Strahan, and Constance Schwartz-Morini’s SMAC Entertainment, Adam McKay’s Hyperobject Industries, Boat Rocker’s Matador Content, and The Athletic.
Both during and after the game, users on social media quickly found that there was no actual Bishop Sycamore High School, and that many of the players were well past the age of typical high schoolers. Since then, the coach for the team, Roy Johnson, was fired, and Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has called for an investigation into how the team was operating. According to the announcement, HBO has also secured exclusive access to Johnson, which will undoubtedly be a huge selling point on the upcoming documentary.

The documentary is just one of many projects coming out based on the scandal, as Kevin Hart and his HartBeat Productions has also recently announced a similar project on the team is in the works.
