Paramount’s Top Gun: Maverick & Mission: Impossible 7 Delayed

Deadline is reporting that Paramount Pictures is pushing back its highly-anticipated Tom Cruise projects with Top Gun: Maverick moving from November 19, 2021, to May 27, 2022, and Mission: Impossible 7 moving from May 27, 2022, to September 30, 2022, due to concerns over the ongoing pandemic and the Delta variant affecting theater attendance.

Top Gun: Maverick will now open against Lionsgate’s John Wick 4 over next year’s Memorial Day weekend. Meanwhile, Mission: Impossible 7 will open opposite Universal Pictures’ Ticket to Paradise.

The studio’s next installment in the Jackass film series, Jackass Forever, has been delayed as well with plans to debut February 4, 2022, instead of October 22, 2021. The movie will now open against Lionsgate’s Moonfall.

Additionally, Sony Pictures’ Ghostbusters: Afterlife will reportedly be taking over Top Gun: Maverick’s November 19, 2021 slot, according to Deadline. The movie was initially set for a November 11, 2021, release.

In Ghostbusters: Afterlife, in hopes of starting a new life, a single mom and her two kids arrive in a small town to move into a beaten-down farmhouse in Oklahoma which they’ve inherited from their grandfather. However, they’ll soon discover their connection to the original ghostbusters and the secret legacy their grandfather left behind.

The film, directed by Jason Reitman, stars Emmy nominees Carrie Coon and Mckenna Grace along with Finn Wolfhard, and Paul Rudd. It will also feature the return of original Ghostbusters stars Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, and Annie Potts as they reprise their iconic roles as Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, Winston Zeddemore, Dana Barrett, and Janine Melnitz.
