Downton Abbey 2 Unveils Official Title For 2022 Theatrical Release

Focus Features has finally revealed the official title for Julian Fellowes’ upcoming follow-up to 2019’s Downton Abbey movie, which is currently set to arrive in theaters next spring on March 18, 2022. The Michelle Dockery-led sequel will now be titled Downton Abbey: A New Era.

Downton Abbey: A New Era will feature the return of the critically acclaimed show’s main cast, including award-winning actress Maggie Smith, Hugh Bonneville, Laura Carmichael, Michelle Dockery, and Elizabeth McGovern. The initial film followed a Royal Visit to the Crawley family and Downton staff from the King and Queen of England and ended with a ball fitting for the Royal Family.

Joining the original cast in the sequel are new cast members, Hugh Dancy (Elizabeth I), Laura Haddock (Guardians of the Galaxy), Nathalie Baye (The Young Lieutenant), and Dominic West (The Affair).

The sequel is being directed by BAFTA-nominated director Simon Curtis (My Week with Marilyn) from a screenplay written by Julian Fellowes, who is also serving as a producer along with Emmy and BAFTA Award-winning Gareth Neame and Emmy Award-winning Liz Trubridge.

Downton Abbey: A New Era is a Carnival Films production, with Focus Features and Universal Pictures International distributing. Carnival Films is part of NBCUniversal International Studios, a division of Universal Studio Group.
