Cinelinx notes that Jurnee Smollett will be reprising her role as Dinah Lance, aka Black Canary, who first showed up in the DC Extended Universe in the Birds of Prey film. The character debuted alongside Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, where she eventually betrayed Roman Sionis (Ewan McGregor) and unleashed her superhuman ability of supersonic screaming.
Sue Kroll is said to produce the Black Canary film under her Kroll & Co. Entertainment banner, with Kroll also having produced Birds of Prey. It’s unknown if Green will direct the Black Canary film or simply act as writer, but the pair of Green and Smollett are no strangers to one another, having also worked on the hit HBO series Lovecraft Country most recently. Taking to Twitter, Smollett confirmed the news, sharing that she was “so excited” to embark on the adventure with Green.
