The fifth entry in Universal Pictures’ Bourne franchise has scored a new writer in Andrew Baldwin, the scribe behind the upcoming Pierre Morel actioner Bastille Day. He’ll rewrite the Robert Ludlum adaptation from an existing script by Anthony Peckham.
Although the news comes just days after Matt Damon, the franchise’s original star, reiterated his willingness to return to the role if director Paul Greengrass steps back behind the camera, it is expected that the fifth Bourne adventure will, as with 2012’s The Bourne Legacy, follow Jeremy Renner’s Aaron Cross. Justin Lin is attached to direct with a release date of August 14, 2015 already in place.
“We’re gonna follow Jeremy’s character,” producer Frank Marshall told ComingSoon.net about the fifth film shortly before Legacy opened. “Everything else is wide open. That’s the great thing about this now. The table is set to go any direction we want to. But we will, I’m sure, follow Jeremy and see what happens. Jeremy and Rachel [Weisz].”
The Bourne Legacy also starred Edward Norton, Albert Finney, Joan Allen, Scott Glenn, Stacy Keach and Oscar Isaac.
