Here is a brief synopsis of the novel The Idea of You from the Macmillan Publishers’ page for the book. While it isn’t an official description of the film, it gives us a good idea of what Westfeldt will be looking at while adapting the screenplay:

Solène Marchand, the thirty-nine-year-old owner of an art gallery in Los Angeles, is reluctant to take her daughter, Isabelle, to meet her favorite boy band. But since her divorce, she’s more eager than ever to be close to Isabelle. The last thing Solène expects is to make a connection with one of the members of the world-famous August Moon. But Hayes Campbell is clever, winning, confident, and posh, and the attraction is immediate. That he is all of twenty years old further complicates things.

Lee’s The Idea of You initially released in 2017. However, it gained popularity during the pandemic last year. It was published by St. Martin’s Griffin.

Schulman has worked on a number of films, including 2004’s Crash which she won an Oscar for Best Picture. Currently, she is serving as EP for the upcoming TV series The First Lady, which is starring Viola Davis (The Suicide Squad) as Michelle Obama, Michelle Pfeiffer (Ant-Man and the Wasp) as Betty Ford, and Gillian Anderson (Sex Education) as Eleanor Roosevelt.

Hathaway most recently starred in the Doug Lima-directed film Locked Down alongside Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave). She also starred in this year’s The Witches alongside Octavia Spencer (Onward) and Stanley Tucci (Spotlight).
