Dragon Ball Super Movie 2

Dragon Ball Super Movie 2 Being Announced on Goku Day

UPDATE: The film has officially been announced. Check out everything we know so far.

Goku Day seems to be shaping up to be a good day for Dragon Ball fans. Although it has yet to be officially announced, Dragon Ball Super Movie 2 may be revealed on May 9.

As documented by @DBSChronicles, the official Toei Animation Europe Site accidentally leaked the announcement with an article that seems to have been scheduled to be published on May 9. The headline for the article reads, “Toei Animation Marks Goku Day with Surprise Announcement of New Dragon Ball Super Movie in 2022.”

As seen in the video from the tweet, that article leads to an error page. The page has since been deleted.

Although the “surprise announcement” isn’t much of a surprise anymore, that doesn’t mean there isn’t a reason to celebrate Goku Day. On May 9, there will be a special live stream that will air episode 3 of Super Dragon Ball Heroes, which will continue the Space-Time War Arc. The stream will be live on both Twitter and YouTube. So expect more news on Dragon Ball Super Movie 2 soon.

After 131 episodes, Dragon Ball Super ended in March 2018. Dragon Ball Super: Broly, which was directed by Tatsuya Nagamine and written by Akira Toriyama, is a film set after the events of the Universe Survival Saga and features Goku and Vegeta taking on Broly. While Broly has appeared in other Dragon Ball films, the iteration found in the 2018 film is a reworked version of the Saiyan and his first canon appearance.

Dragon Ball is one of the most popular anime franchises, so it makes sense there is an entire day dedicated to celebrating its protagonist Goku. If you were wondering, The date May 9 was chosen because the Japanese pronunciation of “5” and “9” is “Go” and “Ku,” respectively.
