Gerard Butler Set to Headline Dean Devlin’s Sci-Fi Thriller Geostorm

Gerard Butler is set to headline writer/director Dean Devlin’s big screen sci-fi thriller Geostorm. The Hollywood Reporter has the news, delivering the following larger-than-life plot synopsis:

“The story sees Butler playing a stubborn but charming satellite designer who, when the world’s climate-controlling satellites malfunction, has to work together with his estranged brother to save the world from a man-made storm of epic proportions. A trip into space follows, while on Earth a plot to assassinate the president begins to unfold.”

Devlin will be making his feature directorial debut with Geostorm. He is best known for his frequent collaborations with Roland Emmerich, serving as writer and producer on projects like Stargate and Independence Day. Butler, meanwhile, can next be seen in Alex Proyas’ Gods of Egypt as well as the upcoming Point Break reboot.

Geostorm, which is aiming for a fall shoot, is being developed by Warner Bros. Picures, Skydance Productions and Electric Entertainment with David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Marc Roskin and Rachel Olschan producing. Paul Schwake is attached to executive produce with Jon Berg overseeing for WB.
