Back in August, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige made mention of the fact that they were making plans for their future films that stretched all the way to 2021, which seemed like a long ways off at the time. Now, in a recent feature story at Businessweek, Feige spoke about a “map” on his office wall that showcases their plans for the future which he called “like looking through the Hubble telescope” that goes even further into the future.
“You go, ‘What’s happening back there? I can sort of see it,'” he said. Feige then revealed quite an earth-shattering tidbit on this “map,” saying: “They printed out a new one recently that went to 2028.”
With Marvel Studios planning out the next fourteen years worth of films, those have to come from somewhere. Thousands of characters are still in their wheel house, with any number of potential franchises in the making, but for some time they might stick to giving individual characters their own solo films. Bob Iger, the CEO of Disney, mentioned in the piece that there’s potential for the members of the Guardians of the Galaxy, as well as the new characters we will meet in Avengers: Age of Ultron to have their own features, saying: “The possibilities are endless.”
Cryptic reveals on the far future aside, the Businessweek article also points to a scene from Marvel’s upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy which features an unnamed “imposing-looking villain.” The site notes that the character “sits on a rocket-powered throne” and that Feige and director James Gunn spoke about making the character more “imperious” as opposed to “petty.”
“Those don’t need to be rockets,” Feige reportedly said on the matter. “Maybe gravity disks?”
Feige nor the site would reveal which villain, but if we’re betting on this “imposing villain” who sits on a “rocket-powered throne” our guess is going to be Thanos, who had a brief cameo in a post-credit sequence in 2012’s The Avengers. His presence has yet to be confirmed for the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy, which will hit theaters August 1st, but these ambiguous teases from the head of the studio seem to indicate we’ll be seeing him on the big screen again very soon.
