The Lord of the Rings Trilogy Remastered to Arrive in IMAX Theaters Tomorrow

With the upcoming 20th anniversary of Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, IMAX has announced that the remastered version of New Line Cinema’s acclaimed blockbuster hit The Lord of the Rings trilogy will finally be making its big-screen debut in IMAX theaters this Friday, February 5, 2021.

Based on the best-selling novels of J.R.R. Tolkien, the epic fantasy film trilogy consisted of 2001’s The Fellowship of the Ring, 2002’s The Two Towers, and 2003’s The Return of the King which were all directed and produced by Peter Jackson. The films went on to earn a combined gross of over $2.9 billion worldwide. It gained a total of 30 Oscar nominations and won 17 of them including Best Director, Best Picture, and Best Adapted Screenplay.

The Lord of the Rings trilogy was led by Elijah Wood as Frodo Baggins, Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn, Sean Astin as Samwise Gamgee, Ian McKellen as Gandalf, Orlando Bloom as Legolas, John Rhys-Davies as Gimli, Billy Boyd as Pippin, and Dominic Monaghan as Merry. It also featured Sean Bean, Cate Blanchett, Hugo Weaving, Liv Tyler, Andy Serkis, and more.

Amazon is currently producing a series adaptation of The Lord of the Rings which will be set in the Second Age of Middle-Earth’s history. It is expected to debut in 2021.
