Deadline brings word that Grammy Award-winning artist and Work It producer Alicia Keys is set to produce an untitled Netflix romantic comedy that will be directed by Steven Tsuchida (Dear White People, Younger, On My Block) and explores the bonds of love and family.

The story centers around an aspiring pop star, Erica, who ends up as the entertainment at her ex-fiancé’s wedding after reluctantly taking a gig at a luxurious island resort while in the wake of a music career meltdown. She tries to keep their past relationship a secret from his bride-to-be Beverly, but Erica rediscovers her feelings for her ex, Jason, despite his brother Caleb’s attempts to keep them from falling back in love. The question soon becomes will Erica sing at Beverly’s wedding – or her own?

The untitled romantic comedy will star Christina Milian (Be Cool, Soundtrack, The Oath), Jay Pharaoh (Saturday Night Live, Unsane, Ride Along), and Sinqua Walls (Teen Wolf, American Soul, Power) and is co-written by Stella Meghie, Dana Schmalenberg, and Rheeqrheeq Chainey.

Keys will produce the project through her AK Worldwide label, along with Maggia Malina for The Malina Yarn Company and Jeremy Kipp Walker for Story Ink. The film is expected to film in Mauritius.
