Walt Disney Pictures is developing a live-action/CG adaptation of the classic cartoon “Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers,” says The Hollywood Reporter. According to the trade, the studio has picked up a pitch by commercials director Robert Rugan for a movie to be produced by Mandeville Films/TV.
Mandeville is the Disney-based production company run by David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman that is also behind the studio’s “Muppets” franchise.
Created by Tad Stones and Alan Zaslove, the series aired on The Disney Channel from 1989 to 1990 (a preview episode aired on August 27, 1988). It featured Chip ‘n’ Dale along with their friends Gadget Hackwrench, Zipper and Monterey Jack as they faced off against some of the most outrageous villains the world has ever seen.
Mandeville’s Alexander Young is overseeing the project and will executive produce.
