Joe Cornish and John Boyega Recently Discussed Attack the Block Sequel
Back in 2011, John Boyega made his debut as an actor in Attack the Block. The story featured a gang of youths fighting against an alien invasion in South London. Although the movie was not a huge hit at the box-office, it became a cult hit among sci-fi fans. Now, director Joe Cornish — who also made his directorial debut in the same feature — revealed that he recently met with the actor and they came up with some ideas for a possible Attack the Block 2.

“I met with John a couple of months ago to talk about it,” Cornish said while talking on the Script Apart podcast (via Empire). “We’ve always had ideas after the first one. But obviously we’ve both been busy doing different things.”

The director went on to add that Attack the Block was way ahead of its time. Per Cornish, that’s why people were taken aback at the time of its release.
“The movie’s nearly ten years old now, and it’s trying to address issues that were fairly ingrained then, and have certainly stuck around,” Cornish said. “At the time when it came out, it put a lot of people’s backs up, because it has a very unusual protagonist and arc.” The movie initially sets up Boyega’s character as an antagonist before flipping the script once deadly aliens arrive.
Shortly after starring in Attack the Block, John Boyega’s career took flight. But while the sci-fi movie is enjoying a surge in popularity at the moment, thanks to Boyega’s Star Wars work and recent involvement in protests, a real interest from the fans for a sequel remains to be seen. “In a way, the longer you leave it, the more interesting it is,” says Cornish.
