Margot Robbie, on the big screen now in The Wolf of Wall Street, is, according to TheWrap, being eyed for both the Jane role in Warner Bros.’ reboot of Tarzan and the female lead in Craig Zobel’s Z for Zachariah. To be directed by David Yates (the last four Harry Potter films), the former project is set to star Alexander Skarsgard (in the Tarzan role), Samuel L. Jackson and Christoph Waltz while the latter film will feature Chiwetel Ejiofor and Chris Pine. Amanda Seyfried was originally planning to star in the sci-fi project, but Robbie will replace her in the part.
Featuring a screenplay by Stephen Sommers and Stuart Beattie, Tarzan is a live-action film based on the character that first appeared in Edgar Rice Burroughs’ 1912 book “Tarzan of the Apes,” but is rumored to pick up at a point well past Tarzan’s “origin story,” instead following the hero after having returned to and been assimilated by British civilization of the era. The action will then follow the Burroughs hero on a mission into the Congo under orders from Queen Victoria.
Z for Zachariah, meanwhile, is based on the Robert C. O’Brien novel. The story, a psychological thriller, follows a girl who believes she is the only survivor after a devastating nuclear event, but comes to learn she is not alone.
Robbie also appeared in last year’s About Time and can be seen coming up in Focus opposite Will Smith.
