Following a competitive bidding war against multiple studios, Deadline is bringing word that Netflix has successfully won the rights to Oscar nominee Simon Kinberg’s spec script for the heist film titled Here Comes The Flood. The outlet’s sources also noted that the deal reportedly cost mid-seven figures. This project will be Kinberg’s first original screenplay in 15 years since writing Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s iconic action film Mr. & Mrs. Smith in 2005.
This new deal comes after the streaming service had also picked up two new high-profile projects: the Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt-led action comedy Ball and Chain; and the upcoming sequel to the Russo Brothers’ hit action film Extraction.

Here Come The Flood is being described as an elevated, character-driven love story heist movie featuring big movie star roles. Simon Kinberg (Sherlock Holmes, The Martian) and Audrey Chon, President of Genre Films, are both attached to produce.
Kinberg’s upcoming projects include the global spy thriller 355 for Universal, FilmNation, and Freckle Films. Written by Theresa Rebeck, the movie stars Jessica Chastain, Penélope Cruz, and Sebastian Stan and will release on January 15, 2021.

Additional upcoming projects include an untitled tentpole sci-fi series inspired by HG Wells’ The War of the Worlds for Apple, with Kinberg writing the first few episodes alongside David Weil (The Hunt), who are both serving as executive producers, as well as The New Mutants, Death on the Nile, Artemis, Luna Park, and more.
