It was announced last fall that Will Smith was eyeing an upcoming science fiction project from 20th Century Fox titled Selling Time. Today, Deadline has an update, reporting that Eagle Eye and Disturbia helmer D.J. Caruso has signed on to direct.
Originally written as a spec script by Dan McDermott, Selling Time follows a man who trades seven years of his life expectancy for the chance to relive a single day, the worst day of his life, over again.
Although Smith is said to have expressed serious interest in the film, the star has not yet signed on. Following a number of rewrites from various other talents, McDermott has recently been brought back in and tasked with redrafting Selling Time in the hopes of achieving a final script that meets with Smith’s approval.
Aside from a recent big screen cameo, Smith last starred opposite his son, Jaden, in M. Night Shyamalan’s After Earth. He’ll soon appear opposite Margot Robbie in Glenn Ficarra and John Requa’s grifter tale, Focus.
John Davis and Jennifer Klein are producing Selling Time through Davis Entertainment.
