The film, co-written by stars James “Murr” Murray, Brian “Q” Quinn, Joe Gatto, Sal Vulcano and director Chris Henchy (The Other Guys), takes the truTV and Funny or Die crew on the road as the fictionalized versions of themselves seek to fix a humiliating mishap from high school.
“Impractical Jokers raised the stakes bringing their hijinks to the big screen and we couldn’t be more proud of their impressive box office debut,” Brett Weitz, General Manager for TNT, TBS, & truTV, said in a statement. “The unwavering support of their fans prove that this comedy franchise continues to provide endless laughs and entertainment that we are pleased to bring into homes.”
In addition to the main crew, also known as The Tenderloins, the film features the appearances of Paula Abdul, Jaden Smith (Neo Yokio) and Joey Fatone and combines its fictional narrative with real hidden camera challenges doling over-the-top punishments as in the original series. The film was produced by Gatto, Murray, Quinn, Vulcano, Henchy and Funny or Die’s Jim Ziegler and Buddy Enright, with Jack Rovner and Funny or Die’s Mike Farah and Joe Farrell executive producing.
