Report: Sam Raimi May Direct Doctor Strange 2
Last month, Scott Derrickson stepped down as director of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness over creative differences with Marvel. However, it looks like Marvel may have already found a replacement: Sam Raimi.
Via Variety, Raimi is in talks to direct the Doctor Strange sequel, with Derrickson remaining as a producer. Raimi arguably set the stage for the MCU with the original Spider-Man trilogy for Sony. If Raimi signs on, this will be his first superhero film since Spider-Man 3 in 2007. Raimi is also well known for helming the Evil Dead trilogy, Darkman, and other genre favorites.
Benedict Cumberbatch will reprise his role as Stephen Strange, with Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch/Wanda Maximoff. Olsen’s upcoming Disney+ series, WandaVision, will also tie into the sequel. Additionally, Marvel’s Kevin Feige has confirmed that the Loki series will be linked to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as well. Filming is expected to begin in May.
