The Rise of Skywalker Tops Box Office, Rises to $725 Worldwide

Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker continues to top the box office coming off of its $376 million global debut last weekend. Over the weekend, the movie brought in $72 million domestically, with an estimated worldwide weekend cume of $166 million and a $725 million global total after 12 days. The Rise of Skywalker is the #10 global release of 2019 as well as the #7 release of the year domestically.

Sony Pictures’ Jumanji: The Next Level retained its #2 spot with a domestic haul of $35.3 million over the weekend, totaling $175 million domestically and $460 million globally.

Sony Pictures’ Little Women claimed the #3 slot this weekend, opening with $16.5 million domestically for a $29 million domestic total and worldwide cume of $30 million. Walt Disney Studios’ animated sequel Frozen II shifted to #4 after taking in $16.5 million domestically over the weekend, bringing the domestic sum to $421 million and totaling $1.2 billion at the worldwide box office. The movie is now the third biggest animated release of all-time worldwide.

Blue Sky Studios’ Spies in Disguise opened at the #5 spot this weekend with a $13.2 million domestic haul, totaling $22 million domestically with an estimated global gross of $38.1 million.

Rian Johnson’s Knives Out fell to #6 this weekend after bringing in $9.7 million domestically, raising the domestic total to $110 million and surpassing $200 million worldwide. A24’s Uncut Gems rose to #7 at the box office after taking in $9.5 million domestically over the weekend for a total domestic haul of $20 million. According to Variety, the Adam Sandler-led film has become A24’s biggest five-day launch ever.
