The film, which is being scripted by Todd Rosenberg and directed by Marc Meyers (My Friend Dahmer), will tell the fact-based story of Jenn Carter (Rothe) and Solomon Chau, a couple who begin planning their wedding early in the year only to be hit with devastating news mere months later that Chau has liver cancer. Thanks to a GoFundMe account that raised over $52,000, the couple were able to move the date up and have the wedding of their dreams in Toronto, enjoying their lives together for four months before he passed.

Todd Garner and Sean Robins will produce via Broken Road Productions, while Sara Scott and Lexi Barta will oversee for Universal.

Shum Jr. who is best known for his award-winning work on the acclaimed Fox musical series Glee and Freeform’s Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments, has yet to truly break out with a hit in the film industry, co-starring in the poorly-received crime drama Revenge of the Green Dragons and martial arts sequel Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny, while having a small role in last year’s smash rom-com Crazy Rich Asians.

Rothe will next be seen in the Amazon series Utopia from writer Gillian Flynn. She is also executive producing and starring in the HBO Max comedy pilot Delilah; and will also be seen in the indie film Body Brokers.
