Deadline reports that The Gotham Group is adapting the upcoming Carrie Arcos novel Skywatchers as a vehicle for director Thor Freudenthal (Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters).
Set to release next summer, Skywatchers, from Penguin Random House imprint Philomel Books, follows a group of teens in 1952 Monterey, California, who participate in President Truman’s Operation Skywatch program in which they keep watch of the sky throughout the day and night. After one of the teens suddenly goes missing, the others must embark on a quest to find out what happened to their friend.
Acros also wrote 2012’s Out of Reach, 2014’s There Will Come a Time, and 2018’s We Are All That’s Left.
Freudenthal recently directed the pilot for Amazon’s Carnival Row, as well as the feature Words on Bathroom Walls, starring Charlie Plummer, Andy Garcia, Taylor Russell and Anna-Sophia Robb. He also directed Hotel for Dogs, Diary of a Wimpy Kid as well as episodes of The Tick, The Flash, Arrow and Supergirl.
