Straight from Hall D23 at D23 Expo 2019, Pixar’s Pete Doctor has revealed new details about the upcoming Pixar animated film Soul which has Jamie Foxx and Tina Fey set to voice its leads.
“Why am I here” is the question at the heart of Soul, a film which explores where souls come from. For the movie, Pixar dreamed up “You” seminars are where soul’s learn personalities and hop into people’s bodies as they graduate. The film’s lead character Joe Gardner (Foxx) is a music teacher who gets his dream music gig but takes a wrong step and his soul leaves his body, as a result he ends up at the “You” Seminar. Joe will adventure through the cosmos to find his way back.
Music in the film will be created by Jon Batiste as well as a score by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. Additional cast members for the film also include Questlove, Phylicia Rashad and Daveed Diggs.
The movie will be directed by Oscar winner Peter Docter (Up, Inside Out) and will be produced by Oscar nominee Dana Murray (Lou). Soul will release against Universal’s untitled Judd Apatow and Pete Davidson comedy, and Warner Bros. In the Heights adaptation. The animated movie will also open a week before Paramount’s Top Gun: Maverick flies into theaters.
Soul is set to be released on June 19, 2020.
