Rooker, whose upcoming credits also include Fantasy Island, Monster Problems, A Good Man Is Hard to Find, and the TV series What If…? and The Dark Tower, will play Buddy in the movie.
Fast and Furious 9 was originally set to hit theaters on April 19 but was pushed back a year to make room for the first spin-off in the series, Hobbs & Shaw, which will debut in theaters on August 2. As a result, Fast and Furious 9 will be getting a May 2020 release with Justin Lin returning to directing in the franchise, after helming Fast and Furious parts 3 through 6. Dan Casey will pen the screenplay from a story by Lin.
The film once again stars Vin Diesel, with returning cast members Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Nathalie Emmanuel, Tyrese Gibson, and Ludacris, with Charlize Theron and Helen Mirren even reprising their roles from Fate of the Furious. John Cena will join the series as a new addition to the family.
