ComingSoon.net was lucky enough to attend this year’s 3rd annual ScareDiego event which was moderated by Conan O’Brien and featured IT: Chapter Two director Andy Muschietti along with the grown-up Loser’s Club: James McAvoy, Jessica Chastain, Bill Hader, Jay Ryan, James Ransone, Isaiah Mustafa, and Andy Bean. The night kicked off with the wonderfully freaky new trailer, with three exclusive clips unveiled throughout the evening. You can read brief descriptions of the clips below!

The first clip revealed the reunion of six out of seven members of the Loser’s Club at a Chinese restaurant, adults now and slowly remembering their past lives in Derry. After spending some time joking around and catching up, the Loser’s Club realizes that Mike (Mustafa) has brought them back home for a reason. Mike is the only one who stayed in town as the rest of the Losers moved on and is the only one who remembers all the events from when they were kids. Once they all remember the clown — as well as the oath they made when they were kids to stop Pennywise if he ever came back — the once jovial scene quickly turns frightening as their fortunate cookies end up spelling out a message pertaining to the one member of the Loser’s Club who didn’t make it for the reunion.
The second clip amps up the horror as Bill tries desperately to save a kid who is living in the house Bill grew up in. At a carnival, Bill follows the kid into a funhouse, eventually locating him on the other side of one of the sheets of thick pieces of glass that Bill cannot break his way through. Suddenly, Pennywise appears behind the boy on the other side of another wall of glass, effectively trapping the kid in his own box of nightmares between a helpless Bill and the terrifying clown. The intense scene escalates as Pennywise begins slowly smashing his way through the glass to get to the young boy, using his own head and face as a battering ram.
The third clip finds the Loser’s Club back at the Neibolt house, this time as adults. Bill, struggling with his deep-seated guilt (Muschietti mentioned during the ScareDiego panel that the sequel would explore survivor’s guilt and childhood trauma), tells the others he wants to go in alone, but Losers stick together. After another rousing “Let’s kill this f***ing clown” line from Richie (Hader), the group makes their way inside. They explore the creepy house for a moment before becoming separated. Three of the Losers come face-to-face with a grotesque and visually stunning monstrosity only Pennywise could come up with, one that fans will be talking about long after the movie ends. Hader discussed a fun Easter egg from this particular scene that calls back to one of John Carpenter’s most popular scary movies from the early ’80s that audiences should keep an eye out for.
