Ben Wheatley (Sightseers, Kill List, A Field in England ) has signed on to direct a big screen adaptation of J.G. Ballard’s novel “High-Rise,” reports ScreenDaily. The book is described as follows:
When a class war erupts inside a luxurious apartment block, modern elevators become violent battlegrounds and cocktail parties degenerate into marauding attacks on enemy floors. In this visionary tale, human society slips into violent reverse as once-peaceful residents, driven by primal urges, re-create a world ruled by the laws of the jungle.
Kill List and A Field in England writer Amy Jump has written the script with Film4 on board as backers and HanWay handling international sales. Jeremy Thomas and Wheatley are lining up a 2014 UK shoot for the adaptation of Ballard’s 1975 novel.
Ballard’s “Crash” and “Empire of the Sun” were previously adapted into movies by Steven Soderbergh and Steven Spielberg, respectively.
