THR brings word that Disney has pushed the release date for the Amy Adams vehicle Woman in the Window from October 4th of this year to sometime in 2020 in order to “retool the film.”
“We’re dealing with a complex novel,” said Fox 2000 president Elizabeth Gabler, “We tested the movie really early for that very reason. We wanted to make it better, and we’ve had Disney’s full support in doing that.”

The film, directed by Joe Wright (Darkest Hour), was caught in the middle of the Disney-Fox deal. And while Disney has attempted to take the reins on many a Fox project, Woman in the Window ultimately tested poorly with audiences that felt the third act was too confusing. As such, Wright and Adams will regroup for five days worth of pickups in the hopes of painting a clearer image.
Adams is currently working on Ron Howard’s Hillbilly Elegy.
The cast of Woman in the Window includes five time Academy-Award nominee Adams (Arrival) and Academy-Award winners Julianne Moore (Still Alice), Anthony Mackie (Avengers: Endgame) and Gary Oldman, who reunites with his Darkest Hour director.
Tracy Letts (Lady Bird) is adapting the screenplay based on the No. 1 New York Times bestseller.

The Woman in the Window tells the story of Dr. Anna Fox (Amy Adams), a recluse in New York City who drinks her days away alone in her apartment, watching classic films and her neighbors. When the Russells move into the house across the way, Anna sees the ideal family and spies on them, only to witness a shocking event that changes her life.
