The upcoming action comedy Spy Guys is negotiating with actor Zachary Levi to star, while Jeff Tomsic (TAG) will direct a script from Adam Sztykiel, per a report from Deadline.
New Line Cinema is aiming to put Spy Guys on the fast track, as it wants production out of the way before Levi becomes sidelined with a sequel to Shazam! Levi will star as a super-spy (hence the title), who ends up relying on his idiot friend from college to help accomplish his mission and presumably save the world as we know it.
This will be the second feature film from Tomsic, who helmed last year’s buddy comedy Tag. He’s previously worked on the smalls screen, helming episodes of The Detour and Broad City. Sztykiel has previously written the video game-turned-movie Rampage and Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip. He’s also set to write the screenplay for Black Adam, which would center on Shazam’s nemesis of the same name.
John Rickard (Horrible Bosses) will produce alongside Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone and Akiva Shaffer, who are better known as the musical/comedy trio The Lonely Island. Taccone was previously attached to the film as a director as well as a producer.
