Fruitvale Station Team Join Sly Stallone for Rocky Spin-Off Creed

In a rather unexpected announcement, Deadline is reporting that a spinoff of the hit Rocky franchise is in the works with the Fruitvale Station team of writer-director Ryan Coogler and leading man Michael B. Jordan. Titled Creed, the new film will follow the grandson of Apollo Creed.

Coogler will draft Creed alongside Aaron Covington with Stallone planning to reprise his Rocky Balboa role, acting as the younger Creed’s reluctant trainer. Stallone will also produce, alongside Robert Chartoff, Kevin King and Irwin Winkler.

The elder Creed, played by Carl Weathers, appeared in the first four Rocky films until a fight with Ivan Drago in Rocky IV led to his death in the ring.
