The film, written and directed by Justin Dec, centers on a young nurse who after downloading an app that predicts exactly when a person is going to die and discovers she is supposed to die in three days must figure out why her time is running out and who or what is the mysterious figure following her.
“Elizabeth Lail is an exciting young actress whose breakout performance in the wildly popular psychological thriller ‘You’ was a breath of fresh air,” STX Films chairman Adam Fogelson said. “‘Countdown’ is a wholly original, scary, and fun script, and we’re thrilled to have found the perfect lead to bring this story to life for audiences around the world.”
Dec, who has previously written and directed short films and has worked as a set production assistant on hit films and shows including Burn Notice, Marley & Me and Parks and Recreation, will be reuniting with Sean Anders, who he worked as an assistant for on Daddy’s Home 2 and Instant Family. Anders will produce the film alongside John Morris (Sex Drive), John Rickard (Rampage) and Zack Schiller (Escape Plan), while Drew Simon and Catherine Hagedorn will oversee the production for STX Films.
