According to Collider, Blade Runner 2049 star Ana de Armas is in early talks to play Marilyn Monroe in writer/director Andrew Dominik’s long-in-development biopic Blonde for Netflix. The outlet reports that nothing has been set in stone, but notes that de Armas is Dominik’s top choice to play the Hollywood icon.

Per the report, Blonde will follow the rise of actress Norma Jean Mortenson and her eventual transformation into Marilyn Monroe, who starred in such classics as Some Like It Hot, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and The Seven Year Itch. Yet, despite her immense success, a series of bad relationships and tragedy ultimately led to drug addiction and death.
Blonde has been in development for some time now, with the last bit of news coming way back in 2014 when Jessica Chastain was announced for the lead role. At the time, Dominik revealed in an interview with Collider that he believes the film “will be one of the ten best movies ever made,” noting that the film is essentially one that explores the human condition, or how a traumatic childhood event shaped the life of an iconic movie star who found herself “split between a public and a private self.”

He also stated this film will be more accessible to audiences than any of his previous work, notably The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford and Killing Them Softly.
As noted above, Dominik wrote the script and will produce Blonde alongside frequent collaborator Brad Pitt and Dede Gardner’s Plan B banner.
