Oscar nominee Taraji P. Henson (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Empire) and Ed Helms (The Hangover trilogy) have boarded Netflix’s police drama Coffee & Kareem, Variety has confirmed.
In the project, Helms will portray a Detroit cop with Henson playing his girlfriend. Helms’ character will reluctantly team up with Henson’s 11-year-old son to clear his name and take down the city’s most ruthless criminal.

Henson can currently be seen in the comedy What Men Want. Her previous credits include The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Empire, Hidden Figures, Hustle & Flow, Proud Mary, Person of Interest, and Acrimony. Henson is also starring in the biographical drama The Best of Enemies alongside Sam Rockwell and Wes Bentley. The feature is based on the story of civil rights activist Ann Atwater and will arrive in theaters on April 5.
Helms is best known for his role as Stu in The Hangover trilogy and as Andy Bernard in The Office. His movie and television credits also include Vacation, Tag, The Daily Show, BoJack Horseman, Father Figures, Chappaquiddick, The Clapper, and We’re the Millers. His most recent project, the comedy horror movie Corporate Animals, debuted on January 29 and also stars Demi Moore and Jessica Williams.

Michael Dowse (Stuber, Goon) will direct Coffee & Kareem from a script written by Shane McCarthy, which was featured on the 2014 Blacklist. Helms and Mike Falbo will produce through their Pacific Electric Picture Co. banner. Executive producers include Sanford Nelson, Jordon Foss, Linden Nelson, and Don Foss.
