Twentieth Century Fox has secured the rights to a big screen remake of MGM’s 1955 hit music Guys and Dolls. Deadline reports that the studio is keen on courting Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Channing Tatum to star.
The original film, directed by Joseph L. Mankiewicz, was based on the hit Broadway musical from earlier that decade, in turn based on a collection of Damon Runyon short stories. The film follows a bet between two friends, Frank Sinatra’s Nathan Detroit and Marlon Brando’s Sky Masterson to win the affections of a woman who runs a mission, Sarah Brown (Jean Simmons).
It’s currently unclear whether or not the remake will retain a period setting or will update the action to present day.
Gordon-Levitt can next be seen in his own directorial debut, Don Jon while Tatum will defend our nation’s Capitol in the upcoming action thriller White House Down.
