Sylvester Stallone has just revealed (via his Twitter account) that Australian director Patrick Hughes (Red Hill) is set to direct The Expendables 3.
“EX3 Needs freshness, class, and much badass,” Stallone writes “….Found it… Blood Sweat and Fears, coming soon… My best PURE ACTION FILM – The last RAMBO – I want this one too top it and I believe it will with NEW BLOOD.”
The cast of the last film included, in addition to Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Chuck Norris, Nan Yu, Randy Couture, Terry Crews, Liam Hemsworth, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Exactly who among those might be returning remains to be seen, but Stallone has hinted that Jackie Chan could join the Expendables’ ranks and that the third outing will offer a lot of “new blood.”
Producer Avi Lerner last year claimed that conversations had begun with Clint Eastwood, Harrison Ford, Wesley Snipes, Nicolas Cage and Mickey Rourke. At this time, none of those names have been confirmed.
