Sony Pictures has secured the rights to remake the recent South Korean crime thriller New World, Deadline reports. Directed by Park Hoon-Jung, the film hit theaters this past February with a cast that includes Lee Jung-jae, Choi Min-shik and Hwang Jung-min.
The storyline follows a police officer who, after spending eight intense years deep undercover, is finally made the right-hand man to the leader of South Korea’s largest crime syndicate, Goldmoon. Things get complicated, however, when that leader is killed in a car accident and various criminal factions vie to be named his replacement.
Will Fetters (The Lucky One) will provide the screenplay for the remake with Roy Lee and Dan Lin producing and John Powers Middleton and Jon Silk executive producing.
