Luke Evans has signed on to headline Universal Pictures’ Dracula (Formerly Dracula Year Zero), says a story today at The Hollywood Reporter. He will play the leading role.
Said to explore the origin of the character, Dracula weaves vampire mythology with the true history of Prince Vlad the Impaler. It seeks to depict Dracula as a flawed hero in a tragic love story set in a dark age of magic and war.
Evans can be seen later this year in Justin Lin’s Fast & Furious 6 and in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.
Gary Shore is attached to make his directorial debut with Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless providing the most recent draft of the screenplay. Michael De Luca will serve as producer.
