Paramount Pictures has plans to develop a sequel to one of this year’s international box office hits. Deadline reports that work has begun on a follow-up to Tommy Wirkola’s Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters.
Although the horror-actioner was a disappointment at the domestic box office (grossing only $55 million), it fared far better overseas, earning $151.2 million for a worldwide total of $205.8 million. The film cost about $50 million to make, not counting marketing expenses.
Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters stars Jeremy Renner, Gemma Arterton, Famke Janssen, Peter Stormare, Derek Mears and Thomas Mann. Set 15 years after the eponymous siblings’ incident at the gingerbread house, the two are now specialized bounty hunters looking to put down the cackling black-hat set.
There is currently no talent announced for the sequel, but check back for details as soon as they become available.
