While everyone was busy watching the latest Captain Marvel trailer, Brie Larson has secured her next acting role. According to Deadline, Larson is close to finalizing a deal to star in director Charlie Kaufman’s upcoming Netflix film I’m Thinking of Ending Things.
Based on Iain Reed’s 2016 novel of the same name, Larson stars as a woman whose boyfriend, Jake, is taking her to meet his parents on their secluded farm. After Jake takes an unexpected detour and ends up leaving her stranded, psychological terror ensues. Given Kaufman’s unconventional approach to often serious subject matter with films like Adaptation and Anomalisa, it will be interesting to see how he’ll approach this particular story.
In addition to writing the screenplay and directing, Kaufman will be producing the film with Likely Story’s Anthony Bregman and Stefanie Azpiazu. Reid will serve as co-producer. The role of Jake has yet to be cast.
Larson, who won an Oscar in 2016 for her role in Room, will also be starring with fellow MCU actors Michael B. Jordan and Tim Blake Nelson in the legal drama Just Mercy, reuniting her with Short Term 12 director Destin Cretton. Of course, come March, she’ll be appearing in Marvel Studio’s Captain Marvel as Carol Danvers, a former Air Force pilot who becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes.
