First announced in December, Amores Perros director Alejandro Gonzalez Inaritu’s Birdman has found its principal cast. The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Zach Galifianakis, Michael Keaton, Emma Stone and Naomi Watts have all signed on.
Co-written by Inaritu with Armando Bo, Alexander Dinelaris and Nicolas Giacobone, Birdman follows an actor famous for having once played a popular superhero over a three day period during which he makes an attempt to mount a Broadway play.
Keaton will play the leading role, offering a bit of a postmodern nod to his iconic role as Batman in both of Tim Burton’s films. Stone, meanwhile, will play his daughter with Watts starring as one of the play’s actresses and Galifianakis a Broadway producer.
Inaritu will produce alongside Robert Graf and John Lesher with production planned to begin later this month.
