Universal Pictures has plans for Mama director Andy Muschietti to helm their adaptation of Josh Malerman’s upcoming novel Bird Box, says a story at The Hollywood Reporter.
Malerman, part of the rock band The High Strung, is set to publish Bird Box in 2014. The plot is said to follow a blindfolded threesome comprised of a woman and two children who make their way down a river in a seemingly post-apocalyptic setting.
Mama, starring Jessica Chastain, hit theaters last month and has, to date, grossed more than $97 million worldwide.
Bird Box will be produced by Chris Morgan, Barbara Muschietti and Scott Stuber with Ryan Lewis negotiating to executive produce.
