ComingSoon.net has been given an exclusive clip from Salvador Litvak’s Saving Lincoln, which opens in limited release on Friday, February 15, just in time for Presidents’ Day weekend.
The innovative biodrama stars Tom Amandes (“Everwood”) as the country’s 16th President Abraham Lincoln with Lea Coco (J. Edgar) playing his long-time friend, attorney and confidante Ward Hill Lamon. The friendship between the two men evolves over the course of Lincoln’s presidency to the point where Lamon has to become his bodyguard constantly vigilant of assassination plots.
Litvak uses a revolutionary technique called CineCollage to put the actors in front of actual Civil War photographs used as the background.
The clip below takes place just as the Union has won the Civil War and President Lincoln calls for a national Thanksgiving, but then stirs controversy as he has the band play “Dixie,” a song that represented the Southern United States that had seceded and eventually surrendered.
